Use of the wood

The wood of E. edulis, unless it is exposed to moisture, is characterized by its high resistance and durability and can be used for civil and rural construction as slats for roofs, rafters, support of scaffoldings, slats for fences and walls of plaster as well as for channels to conduct water. Beside this it can be used for firewood and the production of pulp and paper. In some regions, the stem is also used as support for crops and fruit trees such as eggplant.

As the palm produces abundant pollen, it can also be used for bee keeping.
The leaves are used for temporary roofing, in handicrafts for artefacts of straw and as animal feed.
The species is ornamental and can be grown in pots or in garden. Furthermore it is recommended for recovery of the riparian forest, at places with floods of medium to long term.
The sap has medical use.
